I'm on a mission to paint the halls. Currently it's white (and a bit grubby!). I think I'd like something else on the walls but not sure what.

The downstairs hall has a staircase on one side (the colour will need to go all the way up the stairs onto the 1st floor hall too). There's a lot of wall on the stairs.

I want to put up round wooden coat hooks like these near the front door. But not sure what kind of wood yet so something that'd look good with wood. (Or is that most colours? grin)

House is a 30s ex-council house, nothing fancy! (Some nice original 30s doors though and a larder! But I'm not painting that).

What colour is your hall?

I'm half tempted to just paint it all white again, but also I think it'd be nice to put at least a bit of colour on it.

Thanks for the advice everyone. The bolder colours are great inspiration for my next place.

But have gone for neutral tones for this go round due to hopefully selling soonish.

I love Blackened, had it in halllways in various houses, very calming and sets off white trim and wood really nicely. A big fan! We got ours colour matched so not pricey.

Stiffkeyblue is absolutely gorgeous! Perhaps in the next house...

Blackend looks nice. Calming, isn't it. (Saw the price by accident shock shock grin). Would def need to colour match!

We've matched blackened a couple of times - looks lovely with white woodwork - matched the F&B colour in Johnston's paint

*Thanks for all the replies!

Elephants Breath looks lovely but I'm not even going to look at the prices! Should have said. I'm on a budget!

Dulux Nutmeg White is pretty much along the same lines, isn't it?

(Can you tell which of these is which?)*

The dog in this pic gives it away... 🤣

@houseforanartlover - I was watching this thread as about to do our hallway - love Blackened - did you do all your hall or just one/some?

We're moving - can't remember exactly how light the hallway is but it's a decent size and high ceiling - had been thinking more whites but after seeing this post perhaps should add some colour!

Fivefootoffun Thu 28-May-20 08:00:53

@houseforanartlover - sorry ignore me - I'm getting my colours confused!! Was thinking blackened was a darker shade - looked at too many colours at this stage!!!

Veterinari Thu 28-May-20 08:13:04

@beccy11 have you moved in recently? I feel like I might know that house? grin

eleventy3isthemagicnumber Thu 28-May-20 12:52:03

The dog in this pic gives it away well yes, there is that grin

Dulux gentle fawn is a colour I used over and over. For me it's the perfect neutral type tone.

Hey OP, did your 9 samples arrive, and did you choose a colour yet?

eleventy3isthemagicnumber Fri 05-Jun-20 22:45:54

Yes they did, thanks for asking!

It was really hard to imagine what colour they were online. They were really different in RL.

I got the kids to help me paint them on the walls (homeschooling! Art / DT grin). Turns out I have 3 shades of white. 2 are invisible against the wall and one looks yellowy. They're all out.

Then, 3 beigy colours and one peach. The peach and the darkest of the beiges are out.

So that leaves a warm beige with a pinkish hint )pretty much the colour of plaster grin) and a paler, greyer beige.

DP prefers the warmer one, I prefer the lighter one.

I've got into looking at stairs too (mission creep!) - got a thread on that over here: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/property/3926969-Paint-or-carpet-stairs-to-sell

... and wondering if I should have tested some bluish greys too.

I notice I counted 9 on this thread but only have 7 samples on the wall though. hmm

No idea where I've lost 2! Did I miscount in the first place? Or have two got lost along the way somehow? (Perfectly possible! DP and DS picked them up and the bag was knocking about the house for a few days before I worked out where they'd put it).

We have dulux natural hessian in our hallway. It's really inoffensive, neutral, and warm. You could try that.

AnnaSW1 Fri 05-Jun-20 23:02:30

We have Dulux malt chocolate. I Iove it

eleventy3isthemagicnumber Fri 05-Jun-20 23:29:26

Oh GOD I'm tempted by more samples now!

I mean, thanks for the replys grin

Baxdream Sat 06-Jun-20 09:20:52

Definitely don't go for a bluish grey. We had that before and it's really cold.

Good luck it's so hard choosing!

This is ours

FizzyPink Sat 06-Jun-20 09:23:01

I agree with not a blueish grey. DP did our whole flat with it before I moved in and I'm slowly one room at a time getting rid of it

Baxdream Sat 06-Jun-20 09:25:13

This probably gives the best idea of the colour

Valspar "Aged Parchment" in Matt emulsion is a gorgeous paint.

Nutmeg looks lovely on their website but we used it in our hall and it looked pink as it has a red base!! We have got polished pebble and willow we have done the willow on the back wall that the stairs run up x

atilathehut Sat 06-Jun-20 09:59:20

Clay white by crown is similar to blackened I think
